Through the water inlet, water is sucked into the propulsion housing by the impeller, which is connected to the engine through a cardan shaft to drive. Under high pressure, water is sprayed through the nozzle in the opposite direction to the ship's direction. This creates a reaction force that moves the boat forward. When the ship reaches planing speed, the water is thrown into the air in the form of a current, and only the water inlet touches the water surface. By moving the deflector below the jet to the upper position, an opposing force is generated, causing the boat to move backwards. It is worth noting that the reverse gear can be engaged when the ship is driving at full speed without releasing gas, thus providing an excellent braking effect. In this case, the gearbox will not start, so the gears and ratchets will not wear out. In developing Golfstream nozzles, the plant was based on snails from Yamaha engines.
